Designed an AI-powered career site and recruiter dashboard that changed how candidates found roles and how recruiters evaluated them. 25K+ monthly visitors, 97% AI-match advance rate, +80 NPS.

The brief said "better career site." The real problem was much harder.

LivePerson had a 26% startup churn rate and hiring costs of 6–9 months' salary per hire. They needed to reduce time and cost per hire while improving candidate quality.

What I discovered

  • Candidates spent hours on job boards but couldn't find roles that matched their background
  • Recruiters manually screened hundreds of applications — 71% of low-scoring candidates sat in queue for 6+ days
  • Business — every bad hire cost 6–9 months' salary
The key insight
AI matching only works if candidates trust the recommendations
And they won't trust recommendations unless they understand why those roles match their background. We couldn't just build "submit resume, get matches." We needed to design for transparency and control.

Resume upload first. Search second. Inverting industry convention.

Every major job site (LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor) puts search first. Users are trained to search for jobs, not upload resumes and wait for recommendations.

My position: If AI matching is our value proposition, we need to prove it works before letting users fall back to manual search.

"Users expect to search immediately. If we gate-keep search behind resume upload, we'll lose them."

My counter: A/B tests showed users who uploaded resumes first applied at 18% conversion. Users who searched first applied at 7%. AI recommendations worked — but only if users engaged with them before forming search habits.

What we shipped: Version B with prominent "Match your resume" CTA + visible search + conversational bot. Three entry points based on user intent.
